Hannah Sherman is a Sophomore at Cornell University studying Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. From a young age, she has been captivated by the skies and inspired by humanity's desire to explore beyond our own planet. It was the Mercury-Atlas 6 Mission, which put John Glenn into orbit around the Earth, along with her incredible high school math and science teachers that ignited Hannah's passion for engineering.

At Cornell, Hannah is a member of CUAir, a student project team that designs, builds, and operates an autonomous search and rescue aircraft. Hannah is on the Structures & Payloads sub team, which is responsible for designing the internal structures and mechanisms of the plane. Hannah has also worked in Dr. Mason Peck's Space Systems Design Studio where she was on the Integration and Test team of Cislunar Explorers, a 12U CubeSat demonstrating water electrolysis propulsion and optical navigation technology.

Additionally, Hannah is an executive board member of Cornell's chapter of WoAA (Women of Aeronautics and Astronautics), a TA for Introduction to Mechanical Engineering, and an Engineering Learning Initiatives peer tutor. Last summer, Hannah worked in Cornell's Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Learning Studios on projects aimed to increase experiential learning in the engineering curriculum.

Outside of academics, Hannah is a dancer. After starting ballet at 2 years old, she trained at the Dance Conservatory of Pasadena, completed summer intensives at American Ballet Theatre and The Joffrey Ballet, performed with her high school's dance team, and is now a member of Pandora Dance Troupe at Cornell. Hannah has been able to pair her love for dance with her passion for outreach by being a mentor for Ballet&Books, a nonprofit that promotes dance education and literacy for children.

In her free time, Hannah loves reading classic novels, watching psychological thrillers, drinking matcha lattes, and spending time outdoors. She is incredibly thankful for her family, friends, teachers and mentors who have supported her on her journey thus far. Hannah is thrilled to be interning at Northrop Grumman Space Systems in Dulles, VA as a Brooke Owens Fellow this summer!
