Brooke Owens Fellow, Class of 2019
Syracuse University, Mechanical Engineering, '19
Host Institution: Sierra Nevada Corporation
Mentor: Phil Larson
Ivy is a senior mechanical engineering student at Syracuse University. She loves the fact that an interest in space can bring people together, across all backgrounds and cultures.
At Syracuse, Ivy has spent the past four years volunteering and working for an initiative called Engineering Ambassadors. Engineering Ambassadors promotes STEM and literacy in Syracuse middle schools through project-based teaching. She is also a study abroad global ambassador and enjoys exploring other countries and meeting people from all around the world.
As a 2019 Brooke Owens Fellow, she will be interning at Sierra Nevada Corporation in the software engineering group for Dream Chaser. The Dream Chaser spacecraft will be used for low-Earth orbit missions and will be launching to the ISS in 2019 for cargo resupply.
In the future, Ivy hopes to create a program to empower young girls to pursue interests in STEM and space. She also aims to aid in keeping space a place where anyone is welcome to explore.
