As a student, Karen has a served as leader on the Design, Build, Fly! remote-controlled aircraft team, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and the ChickTech organization for STEM outreach to women, in addition to serving as President of the OSU chapter of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. She has worked with Airway Science for Kids and with the OSU School of Mechanical, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, in addition to completing an internship for the Cornell University Design & Build CubeSat project.

As a Brooke Owens Fellow, Karen worked at Scaled Composites, where she helped design, build, and test a proof-of-concept subscale RC aircraft.

Currently, Karen is finishing up her engineering degree at OSU. After graduating this spring, she will be returning back to the high desert to work full-time for Scaled Composites.
