KATIE GIMBERT
- Brooke Owens Fellow, Class of 2018
- Dickinson College, Environmental Science, '18
- Host Institution: Commercial Spaceflight Federation
Katie Gimbert is an Environmental Science major at Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA. As a young child she aspired to master the political tact of Princess Leia and the piloting skills of Han Solo. This fascination was fostered and grew into her passion for aviation and helping others.
As a STEM major, every week is filled with hours inside the lab or outside cataloging trees. To further connect with the community, Catherine volunteers around campus at the student run coffee cart and as a bicycle mechanic. In addition, she is United States Army ROTC cadet, this includes preparing and mentoring the underclassmen cadets. She has conducted research in the rainforests of Australia. Catherine has also worked on Capitol Hill, in the offices of Senator Boozman as well as for the Chief Information Officer of the Peace Corps.
On campus Catherine lives in a sustainable-living housing alternative called the Treehouse. The goal of the Treehouse is to foster a community where students take 3 minute showers, limit trash/food waste, line dry clothes, and educate members of the community about sustainability.
Catherine will graduate in May of 2018 and commission as a United States Army Aviation Officer. She looks forward to pursuing her passion for adventure.
As a Brooke Owens Fellow, Catherine will work with the Commercial Spaceflight Federation.
