  • Bellevue College, Aerospace Engineering, ‘20

  • Host Institution: Mojave Air and Space Port

  • Mentor: Erika Wagner

Megan (Megs) is currently a sophomore majoring in Aerospace Engineering at Bellevue College in Washington. They are excited to transfer to a University at the end of this school year to complete their upper-level engineering classes and bachelor’s degree and will be applying over the next few months. After several years of living independently and having fallen in love with the city after a visit, Megs moved from their home in Honolulu, HI to Seattle, WA.

At Bellevue College, Megs is the vice president of the Rocketry and Aerospace Club, as well as the Chemistry Club. One of their greatest accomplishments for the Rocketry Club was being selected to present at the Pacific-Northwest Aeronautical and Astronautical Symposium. Megs created and presented a poster on forming a community where resources and information could be shared across pacific-northwest college rocketry clubs. This coming April Megs plans to complete their Level 1 and Level 2 Duel High Power Rocket Certification.

After their freshman year, Megs had the honor of becoming a NASA Community College Aerospace Scholar at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, CA. They competed in various rover building competitions and learned about many of NASA’s upcoming missions, as well as the vehicles that will be used. Megs also worked as a research assistant for an Aerospace Lab at the University of Washington last year, where they helped to design and build the retrieval system for an underwater robot.

Megs is very excited to be a Brookie for the class of 2020 and hopes to learn a lot about the aerospace industry and the many companies and organizations that are part of the community. Megs is especially excited to be able to learn and see the innovations in aerospace testing this summer. They are interested in one day combining their interest in chemistry with their love of aerospace to work on new rocket propulsion systems.

As a Brooke Owens Fellow, Megs will spend the summer of 2020 at the Mojave Air and Space Port.
