Meredith Hunter is a sophomore at Vanderbilt University where she is studying electrical engineering. She has always been interested in aviation, and she is currently working toward getting her pilot’s license.

At school, Meredith is the Vice President of Vanderbilt Motorsports, which is currently building a formula style racecar to take to competition this year. She is also the Treasurer of Vanderbilt’s chapter of the Society of Women Engineers. Additionally, Meredith works as a teacher’s assistant in the machine shop, where she teaches other undergraduate students.

Meredith has had two prior internships. During one summer, she worked as a Software Engineering Intern for Sandel Avionics, where she created a program to extract minima from airport approach plates to form a database. She also interned in the machine shop at Hunter Industries one summer, where she worked with engineers and product managers to create various tooling.

She has always been very passionate about encouraging women in STEM fields. For the last five years, she has volunteered at Technology Goddesses, which is a week-long summer camp that teaches elementary school girls about computer science and technology. She was also a Girl Scout, and for her Girl Scout Gold Award Project, she created a documentary titled “Pink Collar Project: Women in Computer Science” about the history of women in computer science and the impact that history has on computer science today. The documentary is available to view on YouTube.

As a Brooke Owens Fellow, Meredith will be interning with Boeing Phantom Works in St. Louis, Missouri.
