OUR MISSION
Created to honor the legacy of a beloved space industry pioneer and accomplished pilot, Dawn Brooke Owens (1980 – 2016). The Brooke Owens Fellowship was established to help address a historic gender imbalance in the aerospace field. The organization’s programs are designed to serve both as an inspiration and as a career boost to capable young women and gender minorities who, like Brooke, aspire to explore our sky and stars, advance the aerospace industry, and help their fellow people here on planet Earth. Its mission is to provide opportunities and access to talented female and gender minority students from all backgrounds who have been previously underrepresented in the aerospace community.
THE BROOKE OWENS FELLOW EXPERIENCE
Brooke Owens Fellows are selected for their talent, their experience to date, their commitment to service, and their creativity. Their experience in the program is designed to help them grow in each of those areas, turning promising students into thriving leaders. The Brooke Owens Fellow experience is highlighted by the following four elements:
01.
Fellows are matched by industry leaders to specific intern positions at one of the most exciting organizations in aerospace. Over the course of a ~12 week summer, Fellows complete meaningful projects, learn valuable skills, and are paid a living wage.
02.
Each Fellow is paired with two mentors : an Executive Mentor and a Brookie Alumni Mentor. These mentors offer personalized guidance to maximize the Fellowship experience and career development. Our mentorship program facilitates connections between Brookies worldwide and a diverse range of accomplished individuals, including astronauts, authors, journalists, executives, and space policy experts.
03.
During the summer, all Fellows come together for an exclusive, one-of-a-kind Summit, making valuable connections and learning important skills. In addition to team projects and one-on-one mentoring sessions, the Summit features intense, private Q&A sessions with Congresswomen, astronauts, CEOS, and company founders.
04.
By earning their spot in the program, each Fellow is forever included in the Brooke Owens Fellowship network—including an open and direct line of communication to our program’s founders, mentors, host companies, and supporters—in addition to the other extraordinary and passionate women and gender minorities in our alumnae network.
