  • Brooke Owens Fellow, Class of 2020

  • Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Ph.D. Aeronautics and Astronautics

  • Georgia Institute of Technology, B.S. Aerospace Engineering, ‘21

  • Host Institution: Lockheed Martin Space

  • Mentor: Phil Larson

Saba is a Ph.D. student in the Space Propulsion Laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 2021, she earned her bachelors degree in aerospace engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology with highest honors.

Saba's doctoral research focuses on electrospray thrusters, a miniature and highly efficient electric propulsion technology for satellites. To complement this work, Saba has conducted electrospray propulsion research at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Previously, Saba interned at Lockheed Martin Space and MIT Lincoln Laboratory. Her undergraduate research in electric propulsion and mechanics later motivated her to attend graduate school. After completing her Ph.D., Saba hopes to pursue a research career developing new propulsion technologies that expand our ability to traverse outer space.

At MIT, Saba enjoys mentoring undergraduate researchers and teaching through the Educational Studies Program. Through involvement in the Brooke Owens Fellowship, Women of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and other organizations, Saba continues working to support underrepresented students in the aerospace industry.
